The Astor's are old money, old power, and old prejudices. Everyone is Levi's family is expected to follow the family plan, which means you become a lawyer, CEO, politician or any position of power.
With a Masters degree in both Criminology and Criminal Justice, Levi was expected by his family to become a lawyer and later a judge. Instead, just to spite his family, Levi became a cop. After spending a short time on the beat, Levi became a detective, a job that he loves.
Levi though, has a secret. He can read minds. Ever since he was 13, Levi has been able to read the mind's of those around him. While he has to concentrate and focus to do it, it is possible. If he really focuses, Levi can even influence the mind's of other people. The burden that comes with his gift though is that he gets crippling migraines, which have lead Levi to become addicted to pain pills.
Because his ability makes him a uniquely gifted investigator, Levi often gets the strange cases, the weird ones that no one else wants that often deal with DI's. He rarely has a steady partner, largely because the rest of the force thinks he's a privileged pretty boy who got where he is because of family favors. \
The truth is that Levi is estranged from his family and spends most of his time alone in an attempt to hide both his ability and addiction. Levi has seen a lot of strange and grisly things in his short time as a detective which has given him a jaded perspective beyond his years. He hides it behind a pretty-boy facade, content to know that he's doing good work and helping people.
Levi can be found most mornings at Irish Coffee, getting his regular cup and picking up on any news of recent DI's before heading to work on his current case load. In the evenings you can find him at one of the trendier night spots trying to lose himself and forget his troubles in the night life.
